‘Caymanian Proud: A Time to Remember,’ hosted by the Ministry of Youth, Sports, Culture and Heritage is a new, interactive event series, which kicks off at the Harquail Theatre this Friday, 15 October 2021.

This two-part event will feature:

  • Stories of Yester Year - 10 am – 12 noon – guests who will share their memories of Cayman past
  • Cayman: A Lost Culture? - 1 – 3 pm – a discussion panel which will share different perspectives on how Caymanian culture has evolved and we have lost parts of our culture over time.

“We are very excited about this upcoming event. It will be the first of several that the ministry will be hosting in the months ahead with the second to follow in Cayman Brac next month,” said Ministry Chief Officer Teresa Echenique.

“This event is being live-streamed and we hope it will attract a lot of interest and generate a wider, national conversation in schools, and within families about Caymanian culture and heritage,” she added.

Minister for Youth, Sports, Culture and Heritage, Hon. Bernie Bush, who will bring remarks at the event, is also looking forward to the intergenerational event, which ties in with Older Persons Month.

Minister Bush said: “I invite the public and schools to take part in person or through live stream and to use the event as a learning resource for transmitting Caymanian culture, values and oral history to students, while encouraging them to voice their opinions.”

Spaces are limited at the Harquail due to social distancing requirements and masks will be required. To reserve free seats, email YSCH-Admin@gov.ky by 4pm on Thursday, 14 October.

‘Caymanian Proud: A Time to Remember’ will be live-streamed on CIG Facebook and YouTube channels.
