New Members Appointed to Youth and Sports Commissions

The Ministry of Youth, Sports, Culture and Heritage is pleased to introduce the newly appointed members of the National Youth Commission and the National Sports Commission for the 2025-2028 term. These appointments underscore the Ministry’s continued commitment to empowering youth and advancing sports in the Cayman Islands.

The National Youth Commission is made up of 15 members representing youth, public sector, private sector and civil society. Members were carefully selected for their deep understanding of youth issues and for their experience working with children, youth programmes, organizations, and community initiatives.

The National Sports Commission includes 11 appointees consisting of different sports disciplines, the public sector, private sector and civil society. Their diverse backgrounds and expertise spans sports programmes, associations and athlete development.

On 20 August, the Hon. Isaac Rankine, Minister for Youth, Sports, Culture and Heritage, and Chief Officer, Teresa Echenique formally welcomed both Commissions at an official onboarding meeting. The meeting highlighted the vital roles these advisory bodies will play in shaping the future of youth development and sports in the Cayman Islands.

Hon. Isaac Rankine emphasized the importance of these appointments, stating: “Youth development and sports are not side issues, they are national priorities. These Commissions will play a crucial role in advising policy, supporting innovation, and ensuring that our strategies reflect the needs and potential of our people.”

Both Commissions will provide guidance on key issues, strategic investment in youth and sports programmes, and promote inclusive, community-driven policy-making. Ensuring that all youth and sports programmes have opportunities to thrive.
