15 April 2026, 05:04 AM

The Cayman Islands Nursing & Midwifery Association (CINMA) will host its second annual symposium on Thursday, 14 May under the theme Advancing Nursing Practice in the Cayman Islands: Our Nurses. Our Future.

The free event will take place at the Sir Vassel Johnson Hall on the UCCI campus beginning at 2:00pm.  Held as part of activities marking International Nurses Week and International Nurses Day, the symposium is open to registered nurses and other healthcare professionals.

“This symposium is more than just a professional gathering; it is a celebration of the vital role nurses and midwives play in shaping the future of healthcare in the Cayman Islands,” said Helen Kirk, CINMA president. “As we continue to advance nursing practice, we are investing not only in our profession, but in the health and wellbeing of our entire community. We are proud to provide a space for learning, collaboration and recognition, and we encourage all healthcare professionals to be part of this important conversation.”

Attendees will hear from local and international experts and receive continuing nursing education (CNE) certificates for their participation.

Nominations are also now open for the reestablished CINMA Eloise Reid Excellence in Nursing Award sponsored by the Ministry of Health, which returned in 2025 after a hiatus since 2013. The award recognises registered nurses and midwives in the Cayman Islands who demonstrate excellence, innovation and a strong commitment to advancing nursing practice for the benefit of patients and the wider community.

Named in honour of Eloise Reid, a distinguished former Chief Nursing Officer and Chief Executive Officer of the Health Services Authority, the award celebrates her pioneering contributions to healthcare in the Cayman Islands. The 2025 recipient was Caymanian nurse Shanique Ayres of the Health Services Authority.

Members of the healthcare community and the public are invited to submit nominations for the 2026 award at this link.

Registration for the symposium opens on Monday, 20 April. For more information, email caymanislandsna@gmail.com and follow CINMA on Facebook.

The CINMA symposium is sponsored by Baptist Health, Health City, Ministry of Health and CINICO.
