Police Advise of Phishing Text Message Claiming to be from Local Bank

The RCIPS Cyber Crime Unit has become aware of a phishing SMS text message circulating in the Cayman Islands purporting to be from Cayman National Bank. The SMS claims that the your bank account has been frozen due to unusual activity, and advises to click the link in order to regain access. This text is fraudulent and clicking the link can result in your personal information, including banking details, being obtained by scammers. 

 

If you receive an SMS text message from CNB, or any other bank, please check via phone call or other means if it is legitimate, and do not click on any links before doing so. Never provide any personal, banking or password details in response to such messages.

 

If you have clicked on any such links or provided personal information, contact your bank immediately.
