Shortly before 12:20PM on Saturday, 16 August, officers responded to a report of an armed robbery at a jewellery store on Albert Panton Street, George Town. It was reported that two masked men, one of whom was carrying what appeared to be a handgun, entered the store and made demands of the workers there. The men then made off in a vehicle with a quantity of jewellery and cash. No one was injured and no shots were fired during the incident.
Police made enquiries and subsequently located and recovered a vehicle which appeared to fit the description of the vehicle used by the suspects.
The suspect who was carrying the handgun is described as being tall and of slim build and was wearing a long-sleeved shirt, long pants and slippers, along with a mask and sunglasses.
The other suspect is described as being about 6” in height, of slim build and was wearing a long-sleeved shirt, long pants and shoes. He was also wearing a dark-coloured head covering and a cloth over nose and mouth, but appeared to be of dark complexion.
Both men were dressed in neon orange construction type shirts and were wearing gloves.
The matter is currently under investigation and the public should be wary of any jewellery being offered for sale in questionable circumstances, or not through the usual retail sales channels, and avoid purchasing jewellery, or any other items, in such circumstances.
