Just after 6AM today, 9 June, police responded to Her Majesty’s Cayman Islands Prison Service (HMCIPS), Northward, following a report made by the Director of Prisons concerning a member of staff. On arrival, two packages containing a quantity of ganja were handed over to the police and officers were informed that a prison officer was attempting to introduce the drugs into the prison. As a result, the prison officer was arrested.

“I can confirm that a 39-year-old male prison officer has been arrested following an internal investigation carried out within HMCIPS. A criminal investigation has now been launched by the police,” says Mr. Steven Barrett, Director of Prisons.

Following the man’s arrest, officers searched his vehicle and recovered further evidence relating to this investigation. The man is currently being held in police custody pending further investigation by the RCIPS.
