Police Respond to Fight in George Town

On Saturday, 12 September, shortly after 2:30AM, officers responded to a report of a fight at a liquor license premises on Canal Point Drive in George Town. On arrival, officers observed a large crowd gathered in the parking lot and causing a disturbance. They also observed a man armed with a machete chasing another man who appeared to have sustained an injury.

Officers took immediate action to de-escalate the situation by verbal commands. The involved parties failed to comply with the instructions of the officers and as a result, pepper spray was deployed as a public order measure. The two men involved in the incident fled the location, leaving machetes behind.

Officers subsequently dispersed the crowd and recovered the machetes.

One individual who was affected by the deployment of the pepper spray was medically assessed and decontaminated at the scene. Another individual who also reported being affected left the location in a private vehicle.

The incident remains under police investigation.
