An Early morning crash shuts down part of Shamrock Road and the road is expected to remain closed until around 1 p.m. today. Just after 2 am, an off-duty police officer discovered a single motor vehicle collision on Shamrock in the vicinity of Marina Drive, Prospect.
It appears the vehicle was travelling west on Shamrock Road when it collided with a light pole resulting in severe damage to both the vehicle and the pole. The driver was pulled from the car, fled the scene but was apprehended at a residence on Mangrove Avenue shortly thereafter. The 24 year old man was the only one in the car and has serious but non-life-threatening injuries. He’s been arrested on suspicion of DUI.
The section of Shamrock Road between Marina Drive and Mangrove Avenue is currently closed, and will expected to stay closed for the next few hours so crews can repair the damaged light pole.
Police are appealing for anyone who may have witnessed the incident to contact the George Town Police Station at 649-4222.
