Students enrolled in the Professional Practice Course (PPC) at the Truman Bodden Law School visited the Law Courts on 16 September 2026 as part of the start of their nine-month academic and skills programme.

The group of 20 students toured courtrooms across the Law Courts campus, gaining an introduction to court facilities and some of the practical arrangements that support the administration of justice in the Cayman Islands.

During the visit, students learned about a range of courtroom procedures and facilities, including special measures available for vulnerable witnesses and the use of technology to facilitate remote participation in court proceedings.

A highlight of the visit was a question-and-answer session with Justice David Doyle, Judge of the Grand Court. Justice Doyle spoke with the students about his professional experience as a judge in the Cayman Islands and other jurisdictions, including aspects of his judicial career and notable cases. Professor Simon Cooper, Acting Director of Legal Studies, who accompanied the students, noted the students’ strong interest in the discussion and in litigation practice.

The PPC is designed to prepare students for practice within the Cayman Islands legal profession, combining academic study with practical skills including courtroom and appellate advocacy, negotiation and legal drafting. Successful completion of the programme leads to the award of a Postgraduate Diploma in Legal Practice by Oxford Brookes University.

The Judicial & Legal Education Institute (JLEI) continues to support the professional development of aspiring attorneys through its involvement in the Articles of Clerkship programme, including opportunities for students to shadow members of the Judiciary.
