The full complement of officers deployed under Operation Winter Guardian hit the streets on the 18th of December. During this period, the Cayman Islands have seen a heightened police presence in communities and commercial areas, with high‑visibility patrols, vehicle checkpoints, intensified operations and active searches for wanted persons.
Over the first week, more than 70 arrests were made for a range of offences. These included more than 15 arrests for drink driving, just under 10 arrests linked to robbery offences and approximately 15 arrests related to drugs. Traffic prosecutions also increased, with most offences involving speeding and expired vehicle registration.
Operation Winter Guardian will remain in effect throughout December, with the stated aim of enhancing the safety and wellbeing of all persons in the Cayman Islands. Police are urging the public to report suspicious or illegal activity and are calling on motorists to avoid drinking and driving, reduce their speed and exercise care and courtesy on the roads during the festive season. The RCIPS has extended wishes for a safe and happy holiday period to the entire community.
