Regiment Conducting Precautionary Sanitisation Operations in West Bay

The Cayman Islands Regiment, in coordination with relevant government authorities, is conducting precautionary sanitisation operations in the West Bay area, near Genevieve Bodden Drive, as part of enhanced biosecurity measures following the confirmation of H5N1 avian flu virus at a single farm located on Cemetery Road.

The measures are being implemented out of an abundance of caution due to the proximity of residential poultry facilities to the area.

Cayman Islands Regiment personnel will conduct disinfection protocol in which vehicles exiting the designated area will have their wheel arches and tires sprayed while pedestrians will be provided with footwear disinfection stations.

Sanitisation materials being used are standard disinfectants appropriate for the type of precautionary operation. The risk to humans remains low, and these measures are being taken to maintain that low risk.
