Police/Court
22 October 2025, 11:17 AM

Search operations are continuing this morning for Mr. Corey Nikito Brown and Mr. Amilcar Rosales Smith of Cayman Brac, who were reported overdue from a fishing trip earlier this week.

On Tuesday, 21 October, just after 4:00 p.m., a concerned family member contacted the 911 Communications Centre to report that the two men had not returned from a fishing trip they began the evening of Monday, 20 October, around 6:00 p.m.

Upon receiving the report, the Cayman Islands Coast Guard (CICG) initiated search and rescue coordination efforts with assistance from the RCIPS Air Operations Unit and Department of Environment officers based in Cayman Brac. Initial aerial searches were conducted in the area where the fishermen were believed to have traveled, but no sightings were made.

The missing men have been identified as:

Corey Nikito Brown
Date of Birth: 9 April 1987
Last seen wearing: brown long-sleeve shirt and cream pants

Amilcar Rosales Smith
Date of Birth: 3 January 1984
Last seen wearing: baby blue shirt and light blue jeans (left leg cut off)

The vessel is described as a blue 24–28 ft. fishing boat equipped with a single 100 HP engine.

Today’s Search Activities

Based on data provided by the U.S. Coast Guard, today’s search operations will focus within a 92-nautical-mile perimeter, covering an area of approximately 495 square nautical miles. The operation is being supported by aerial assets from the Jamaica Defence Force Air Wing.

Due to current sea conditions around the Sister Islands, the on-scene commander has advised that no assistance from local fishermen is being requested at this time, as conditions remain unfavorable for small craft operations.
