Statement by Her Excellency the Governor, Mrs. Jane Owen on the Crime Situation in West Bay

Statement by Her Excellency the Governor, Mrs. Jane Owen on the Crime Situation in West Bay

Government

It is a serious concern that the Cayman Islands has this week lost a young man due to gun violence in the early morning on Sunday, 21 January 2024.

Furthermore, in what appears to be a retaliatory action, another young man is now hospitalised after being shot and wounded during the early hours of Friday, 26 January.

Violence of any kind puts at risk the safety and security we value so highly in the Cayman Islands.

I wish to reassure the people of the Cayman Islands that the full might of the RCIPS, led ably by Commissioner Kurt Walton, has been deployed in solving these cases and bringing the perpetrators to justice.

I urge you all to support the police in this endeavour with any information you might have, however small, to contribute to their investigative work.

It is the responsibility of all of us to work together to keep our islands safe. As we head into the weekend, please take care of yourselves and your communities, and I wish you all a good evening.
