Update: Marine Incident at Governor's Beach
Sci/Technology & Environment
26 August 2026, 05:00 AM

In the interest of public safety, a targeted response by the Department of Environment’s (DoE) marine unit located and removed a barracuda from the vicinity of Governor’s Beach that had been observed to exhibit unusual behaviour.

Barracudas are a natural part of Cayman’s waters. While marine life encounters resulting in injury are rare, local authorities encourage beachgoers to remain vigilant and aware of their surroundings while enjoying the sea.

The Department of Environment Conservation Officers will continue to monitor the area as a part of regular patrol.
