Visitor Drowns While Snorkeling Off North Church Street

Shortly after 12:00 p.m. on Friday, 8 August, police and emergency responders were dispatched to a report of a person in distress in the waters off North Church Street, just south of the Eastern Avenue intersection.

According to reports, a 71-year-old man from the United States had been snorkeling when his companions on shore lost sight of him. He was later found unresponsive in the water nearby.

The man was brought to shore, where emergency personnel attended to him before transporting him to hospital. Sadly, he was later pronounced dead.

The Royal Cayman Islands Police Service has extended its condolences to the family and friends of the deceased.
