The Cayman Islands Government has produced a documentary, “A Phenomenal Woman”, to honour the life and legacy of late National Hero, Honourable Francine Eldona Jackson. A special screening of the documentary was held on Thursday, 17 September at the Camana Bay Cinemas. The event was attended by family members of the late Mrs Jackson, Acting Minister for Financial Services and Commerce, Hon. Julie Hunter and other senior government officials.
The documentary features interviews with Mrs Jackson discussing her life, her work as a suffragist, and her appointment as a National Hero.
Premier Hon. André Ebanks said, “The Cayman Islands we know today were shaped by women like Mrs Francine, and we simply cannot and will not overlook her generation’s contributions – they are far too important to who we are as a people. By sharing her story, this documentary will ensure that future generations of Caymanians understand the impact of her life’s work on our Islands.”
Cabinet Secretary Samuel Rose said, “Sharing this documentary with Mrs Francine’s family and the people of the Cayman Islands has been a special privilege for our team and has allowed us a chance to honour her life, legacy, and contributions to Cayman.”
Hon. Francine Jackson was a suffragist and one of the first women to run for political office in Cayman following the passing of the Sex Disqualification (Removal) Law. In 2013, she received the Cayman Islands Gold Medal of Merit, and in 2025, she was named a National Hero. She was the second Hero to receive the honour during her lifetime. She passed away on 5 July 2026.
