The National Trust for the Cayman Islands is expressing gratitude to the community following overwhelming support for its Heritage Bakehouse programme, a hands-on cultural experience focused on making traditional cassava heavy cake.

The initiative, hosted at the historic Mission House in partnership with the Cayman Islands Department of Tourism, has seen strong demand since the relaunch, with classes quickly filling and bookings now extending through 9 September 2026.

In a statement, the National Trust said the enthusiastic response highlights a deep appreciation for Caymanian heritage and traditions among both residents and visitors.

Organisers noted that the programme’s popularity has led to classes becoming oversubscribed. In response, efforts are underway to add more dates and expand capacity, while maintaining the small-group format that allows for an authentic and immersive experience.

The National Trust is asking for continued patience as it works to accommodate demand, adding that the programme’s success reflects the community’s commitment to preserving and celebrating Cayman’s cultural heritage.

Further updates on additional class availability are expected in the coming weeks.
