Police Advise on Burglary Series, One Man Arrested and Charged

Police are investigating two recent series of burglary which have taken place in the George Town and North Side districts.

On Friday, 20 August, police arrested one man, age 26, on suspicion of several of the George Town burglaries, which primarily targeted commercial premises. He has since been charged with two counts of burglary and one Damage to Property, and appeared in court on Monday, 24 August where he was remanded in custody and scheduled to reappear on 2 September at 10AM.

He remains under investigation in relation to the other burglaries.

The offenses in North Side have primarily targeted residential premises, and remain under investigation. Police are reminding members of the public to keep residences secured, and avoid leaving doors and windows open or unlocked.

In addition the public is encouraged to take the following precautions:

• Ensure valuables inside the premises are not visible near windows or in other areas where they can be seen.
• Exterior lighting, alarms and CCTV systems should be installed where possible.
• Security cameras, alarms and exterior lighting should be regularly serviced and checked to ensure that they are functioning properly, particularly at commercial premises.
• Security procedures should be regularly reviewed with employees of commercial premises.
• Arrangements should be made for unoccupied properties to be checked regularly.
• Cash should not be left at commercial premises overnight.
• Valuable equipment should be properly secured when not in use.

Anyone who believes they have witnessed a burglary in progress or noticed any suspicious activity around residential or commercial premises in recent months, is encouraged to contact the nearest police station.
