Police are investigating a two-vehicle collision on South Church Street in George Town that occurred shortly after 12:00AM on Monday, 8 June, involving a Kia Sportage and a Toyota Corolla. On arrival, officers found both vehicles with extensive damage, and the driver of the Kia Sportage trapped in the vehicle. Emergency services assisted the driver from the SUV, and the person was transported to the Anthony S. Eden Hospital for treatment of non-life-threatening injuries. The driver of the Toyota Corolla attempted to flee the scene but was located nearby and arrested on suspicion of driving under the influence and other traffic offences after returning a breath test result of more than twice the legal limit. The collision is under active investigation by the Traffic and Roads Policing Unit. Police also report a high volume of collisions on the stretch of South Church Street between Clayton Drive and Denham Thompson Way, and say they are working with the National Roads Authority to identify and implement measures to help address the problem.
