CIG Opens Applications for 2026 Summer Internship Programme
General, Government
09 March 2026, 11:12 AM

The Cayman Islands Government (CIG) has opened applications for its 2026 Summer Internship Programme, creating more opportunities for young Caymanian scholarship students to gain experience inside the Civil Service. Caymanians who hold a government scholarship and will be at least 17 years of age by 1 May 2026 are eligible to apply online at careers.gov.ky, with applications closing on 31 March 2026.

Now in an expanded format, the programme will provide up to 200 students with practical work placements across a wide range of government entities. Internships will run for periods of one to four months between May and September 2026, allowing participants to experience day-to-day operations and learn about potential career paths in public service.

Deputy Governor Franz Manderson said the expansion reflects a deliberate, collaborative effort to develop the next generation of Caymanian professionals. He noted that, under the leadership of the Portfolio of the Civil Service, the programme is helping build “strong, sustainable talent pipelines” into what he describes as the most diverse workforce in the Cayman Islands. He also highlighted the involvement of the Ministry of Education and Training, the Ministry of Caymanian Employment and Immigration, and 12 private sector partners as evidence of what can be achieved when organisations work together.

Mr. Manderson offered special recognition to Walkers Cayman Islands Office, which he said was the first private-sector firm to offer placements in 2025, including opportunities within its overseas offices where Caymanian students have the right to live and work. He said that while the public and private sectors may compete for talent, the initiative sends a clear message that both stand united behind the next generation when it matters most.

Students from all academic disciplines are encouraged to apply for the 2026 intake. Interns accepted into the programme will receive CINICO medical benefits and, for those aged 18 and over, pension contributions. Beyond these benefits, participants will gain real-world experience, build professional networks across government and learn more about the breadth of roles available within the Civil Service.

In addition to placements within CIG, a limited number of applications may, with the permission of the applicants, be shared with selected private sector companies. The Cayman Islands Government has invited further employers to join the programme by contacting the Portfolio of the Civil Service, as it seeks to broaden the range of opportunities available to young Caymanian talent.

Caymanian scholarship students interested in taking part in the 2026 Summer Internship Programme can find full details and submit their applications at careers.gov.ky before the 31 March deadline.
