Members of the Cayman Islands Institute of Professional Accountants (CIIPA) gathered on Thursday, 12 March for the Institute’s Annual General Meeting (AGM), a key event in CIIPA’s calendar that provides an opportunity to reflect on the year’s work and set the course for the future of the profession. During the meeting, members elected the Institute’s officers for the 2026–2027 term. Laurie Mernett was elected President, Marlon Bispath was elected Vice-President and James George was elected Secretary.
“It’s truly an honour to take on the role of President, and I’m very much looking forward to working with the CIIPA team, Council and all of our members in the year ahead,” said Mernett, who takes over the role of President after serving two years as CIIPA’s Vice President. “CIIPA plays an important role in the Cayman Islands — not just for accountants, but for the wider financial services community. Our profession is built on trust, professionalism and high standards, and CIIPA helps ensure those standards continue to evolve as our industry changes.” The AGM also provided an opportunity to recognise the service of two long-serving Council members and former CIIPA Presidents, Mike Mannisto and Serge Berube, who stepped down from Council following a combined 33 years of service to the Institute. Both were presented with gifts in appreciation of their leadership and lasting contributions to the profession.
