22 May 2026, 05:25 AM

The Department of Environmental Health (DEH) is urging North Side and East End residents, as well as those living in Cayman Brac and Little Cayman, to get their bulk waste ready for collection as its solid waste team moves to their communities from Monday, May 25, 2026.

During the last week of this year’s Bulk Waste Collection Schedule, collection teams will be deployed to the North Side, East End and the sister islands simultaneously until Saturday, May 30, 2026. Residents are urged to prepare, separate, and get their items ready for collection. Any bulk waste that is put out after the announced dates will not be collected as there will not be any extension of the schedule

DEH Director, Mr. Richard Simms. Expressed his gratitude to the public as the annual clean-up nears completion. “I want to sincerely thank the residents across all districts for their excellent cooperation and collaboration over the past three weeks,” Mr. Simms said. “As we enter this fourth and final week, I urge everyone in the remaining communities to take full advantage of this service. Properly disposing of these large items now is a critical step in our preparedness plans, ensuring we clear potential airborne hazards and debris from our properties ahead of the upcoming hurricane season.”

The Department is also reminding Bodden Town residents that Saturday, May 23, 2026, was the last day for the collection in their area and no additional bulk waste must be placed as it will be considered littering or illegal dumping.

Following the completion of the bulk waste collection in the Bodden Town District, the DEH Solid Waste crews will move on to North Side, East End and the Sister Islands for the last week of the schedule, as indicated below.

In Grand Cayman:

  • North Side / East End       May 25 to 30                 WEEK 4

In Cayman Brac:

  • East Side                              May 25 to 26
  • West Side                             May 27 to 28
  • South Side                           May 29                          WEEK 4

In Little Cayman:

Bulk waste refers to large items such as old furniture and metal items that are not collected as part of the DEH’s weekly residential pick-up services.

Metal and vegetative waste must be separated from other bulk waste items. Meanwhile, construction and demolition debris, hazardous material, electronics, and tyres as will not be collected during the bulk waste removal activity. Alternative arrangements must be made to transport these materials to the George Town Landfill or the landfill drop-off facility at the gate which remains accessible to the public and small vehicles 24 hours per day.

The DEH is also reminding residents that following the completion of the Bulk Waste Collection Schedule, individuals should arrange to transport any additional waste to the landfills and report any illegal dumping and littering to the DEH or the Royal Cayman Islands Police Service (RCIPS). This unlawful practice can result in a penalty of 6 months of imprisonment and a minimum fine of $500.
