The Maples Group celebrated its 2026 Summer Internship Programme at its annual Internship Luncheon on 30 July 2026, bringing together 35 interns and 22 scholarship recipients with supervisors, mentors, colleagues from across the Group and government representatives.
Speakers at the luncheon highlighted the importance of approaching each new opportunity with humility, ambition and a sense of stewardship. Whether beginning an internship, starting as an articled clerk or taking on a new professional milestone, students were encouraged to “remember day one”, work hard, treat others well and look for ways to create room for more Caymanians to succeed.
As a flagship moment within the summer internship, the luncheon provided a dedicated forum for students to share perspectives, hear from leaders and build connections across the private and public sectors. The event also reinforced the purpose of the programme: to provide young Caymanians with meaningful access to professional experience, mentorship and networks that support their confidence, growth and long-term career development.
The annual summer initiative welcomes students with a wide range of interests, backgrounds and career aspirations. Participants gain a well-rounded view of the wider Group through placements across departments including IT, Legal, AML, Funds Fiduciary, Human Resources, Marketing and Accounting.
Business services participation evolves each year in line with organisational needs, giving interns insight into the collaborative nature of the business and the role each function plays in delivering client service excellence. Alongside their placements, interns take part in workshops designed to strengthen professional confidence and practical skills.
Michael Richardson, Managing Partner of the Group’s Cayman Islands law firm, said: “Programmes like this are an important part of how we support the next generation of Cayman Islands professionals. By giving students access to meaningful experience, mentorship and exposure to a wide range of career pathways, we help them build confidence, understand where their strengths may lead and see how they can contribute to the wider success of the profession and community.”
Community engagement is also an important part of the student experience. Each cohort participates in a dedicated Community Service Day, alongside group projects that promote teamwork, research and presentation skills. Interns present their findings to supervisors and leaders, gaining valuable experience in communication, collaboration and professional delivery.
At the Luncheon, Hon. Rolston M. Anglin, Minister for Finance & Economic Development and Minister for Education & Training, spoke to the importance of corporate social responsibility and work-life balance, reinforcing the value of investing not only in professional development, but also in the wider wellbeing of young Caymanians and the communities they will help shape.
Scholarship recipients also shared reflections on the impact of receiving support beyond financial assistance from the Maples Group. They spoke about the confidence that comes from knowing others recognise their potential and believe in their ability to take the next step. As one recipient reflected during the luncheon, “The ones who make room for you don’t always know how much they change your life.”
Another key component of the internship experience is networking. Interns connect with professionals across the organisation and wider community through initiatives such as the CareerMasters FutureFlex Conference, CIMA Student Mixer, interactive panel discussions and fireside chats with legal professionals. These opportunities give students practical insight into the pathways available to both legal and non-legal talent.
Jonathon Meloy, member of the Early Careers Committee, added: “When students are given the opportunity to see the bigger picture, they are better placed to understand where their interests, strengths and ambitions may lead. That perspective is an important part of helping them make confident decisions about their future and recognise the role they can play in opening doors for others.”
The Maples Group's collaboration with the Portfolio of the Civil Service further strengthens its connection to public sector talent development, creating opportunities for Cayman Islands Government scholars to participate as part of the internship cohort. This reflects the organisation’s broader commitment to community partnership and developing future talent in the Cayman Islands.
