Police/Court
05 August 2026, 12:34 PM

Police are investigating reports of a scam that involves individuals posing as used-car dealers.

It is reported that the individuals are running advertisements on Facebook claiming to represent companies selling used vehicles from Japan. Interested parties are asked to make contact with the seller via WhatsApp, who uses false names such as “Anthony Daniels” or “Ahmed”, and mobile numbers which appear to originate in Pakistan. A number of individuals reportedly lost money as a result of the scam.

Members of the public are urged to exercise caution when purchasing vehicles online and to verify the legitimacy of the seller before making any payment.

Members of the public are also reminded to conduct business with only established dealers with verifiable business details, including a physical address, official website and telephone number.

Detectives are encouraging anyone who has made contact with the seller to make a report at the nearest police station.

The matter remains under police investigation.
