Layman E. Scott Sr. High School celebrated the graduation of 34 students at the Aston Rutty Centre on 3 October, under the theme “Built by Challenges, Strengthened by Perseverance.” Minister for Education and Training, Hon. Rolston Anglin, congratulated the graduates, urging them to remain focused, use their time wisely and persevere in pursuing their goals. “I am confident that every single one of you, once you set your mind to it and use your time wisely, can achieve anything in life.
You have faced challenges thus far, but through the perseverance you have already demonstrated, you can achieve whatever you set out to accomplish.” The cohort achieved strong academic results, with 82% attaining five or more Level 2 passes, including Mathematics and English. Seventy-six per cent graduated with honours, having achieved a minimum of seven Level 2 passes, while 41% achieved high honours having passed at least nine subjects with grades of II/B or higher. In addition, 97% achieved Level 2 passes in English Language, while 82% did so in Mathematics.
Acting Principal Kevin Roberts thanked parents, teachers and the wider community for their support and encouraged the graduates to look beyond conventional measures of achievement as they define success for themselves. “I hope you will measure success by more than qualifications or career milestones. Think also of the person you are becoming, the values you uphold, and the difference you make in other people’s lives.
” Paul Tibbetts, Executive Vice President of Commercial Affairs and Chief Financial Officer of Cayman Airways and an alumnus of Cayman Brac High School, delivered the keynote address. Drawing on his aviation experience, he encouraged graduates to persevere through life’s challenges. “Aircraft generally take off heading into the wind. The very thing pushing against the aircraft is what helps it take off. In life, you will face headwinds.
That does not mean your journey is over. Sometimes the very thing pushing against you is also developing what you need to rise.” Valedictorian Aryan Champawat, who is currently studying overseas, delivered his address via audio broadcast. He reflected on the cohort’s shared experiences and the bonds formed during their school years. “After tonight our lives may start heading in different directions, but none of these paths is more important than the other.
What matters most is the path we choose and what we make out of it. Years from now, when we look back at our time here, we will remember the people, the laughs, the moments that seemed ordinary at the time and the feeling of growing up together.”
The Ministry of Education and Training and the Department of Education Services extend their congratulations to the Layman E. Scott Sr. High School Class of 2026, their families, teachers and the entire school community.
