A 32-year-old man, of a Bodden Town address, has been formally charged with Possession of an Unlicensed Firearm, Possession of Ammunition, and Possession and Consumption of a Controlled Drug.
It is reported that on Thursday, 4 June, shortly after 10:00 PM, while officers were conducting a routine patrol in the Bronze Road area of George Town, they observed a man at a premises fitting the description of a person wanted by police in relation to drug offences.
When he was positively identified, officers approached the man who became boisterous and was detained for safety reasons. During enquiries, officers observed a bag at the location and attempted a search, when the man became aggressive towards the officers and made efforts to escape from police custody. Officers deployed a taser and the man was safely subdued, after which the bag was searched and a quantity of suspected ganja and what appeared to be drug utensils were recovered.
The man was arrested on suspicion of drug offences and transported into police custody. Officers conducted a further search of the premises as well as the bag that he had in his possession, where a firearm was recovered at the premises, and a spent shell casing was recovered from the bag.
The man was subsequently formally charged in relation to the offences.
He appeared before the court today, Monday, 8 June and was remanded.
He will appear in court on Friday, 12 June.
