09 June 2026, 05:27 AM

Premier and Minister for Financial Services and Commerce, the Hon. André Ebanks MP will travel to Washington, DC and Chicago this week to support continued Cayman Islands engagement with key government, policy and financial services stakeholders in the United States.

The visit forms part of the Government's ongoing efforts to foster and bolster international relationships, reinforce the Cayman Islands' reputation as a globally respected financial services centre of excellence, and promote the country's dynamic financial services products and strong regulatory framework in important international markets.

The Premier’s itinerary begins in Washington where he is scheduled to meet with senior officials at the US Department of the Treasury, members of Congress, congressional staff, and representatives of key industry organisations.

Engagements in Washington will focus on matters relevant to the Cayman Islands’ financial services sector, including international tax policy, financial regulation, cross-border investment, capital markets, private investment and the broader US-Cayman economic relationship.

The Premier will also participate in discussions with leaders from organisations representing a range of financial services sectors.

The Premier will be accompanied throughout the Washington and Chicago visit by Deputy Chief Officer, Michele Bahadur and Senior Policy Advisor, Razaak Busari in the Ministry of Financial Services and Commerce, and Cabinet Office International Affairs Analyst, Sean Whewell.

For the Washington portion of the visit, the Premier will also be accompanied by Cayman Islands Monetary Authority (CIMA) Chief Executive Officer, Cindy Scotland and other CIMA representatives.

The visit will then continue to Chicago, where the Premier is expected to engage with government, industry and professional services stakeholders. The Chicago itinerary includes meetings and events focused on insurance, investment funds, financial services, and the Cayman Islands’ unique role as a leading international financial centre.

Scheduled engagements in Chicago include a Cayman Finance briefing and panel discussion, meetings with major professional services firms, discussions with Illinois government and insurance stakeholders, and industry events hosted by Cayman Islands financial services partners.

For the substantive period of 8-13 June, the Hon. Gary Rutty MP will serve as Acting Premier, the Hon. Johany "Jay" Ebanks MP as Acting Deputy Premier, and the Hon. Michael Myles MP as Acting Minister for Financial Services and Commerce.
