The Royal Cayman Islands Police Service (RCIPS) wishes to reiterate its deepest condolences to the family and loved ones of young Alissady Powell.
Following the recent verdict in the Grand Court—where the defendant was convicted of abduction but acquitted of murder in relation to the tragic events on Cayman Brac on 26 July 2022—Commissioner of Police Kurt Walton acknowledges the understandable public concerns regarding the initial handling of the investigation and the court outcome.
Following consultations and a recent meeting with members of Alissady’s family, Commissioner Walton has engaged a leading international child death expert based in the UK to conduct an independent review of the investigation.
The Commissioner and the wider RCIPS recognise that this remains an exceptionally difficult time for Alissady’s family and the broader community, given the profound impact her death has had on the Cayman Islands as a whole. We remain steadfast in our commitment to seeking justice on behalf of young Alissady and ensuring that our organisation and community are fully prepared and equipped to respond to such tragic acts of violence.
