The Royal Cayman Islands Police Service (RCIPS) can confirm that the woman who was arrested in relation to the stabbing incident which occurred on Shamrock Road on Friday, 30 October, is a serving police officer who was off duty at the time of the incident. She is currently in police custody.
The RCIPS takes any allegation of criminal conduct involving a serving police officer extremely seriously. The officer concerned has been suspended from duty with immediate effect, pending further investigation and the establishment of the full circumstances surrounding the incident.
The Cayman Islands Ombudsman has also been formally notified of the matter.
The RCIPS wishes to reassure the public that all allegations involving its officers are dealt with impartially and thoroughly, and that police officers are subject to the same laws and standards of accountability as every other member of the community.
As this remains an active criminal investigation, no further details will be provided at this stage.
