RCIPS Warns of Malicious PDF Email Targeting Local Entities
Police/Court, General
19 February 2026, 03:42 PM

Royal Cayman Islands Police Service (RCIPS) Cyber Crime Investigation Team is warning the public about a malicious PDF currently circulating to local businesses and organisations from a compromised email address.

The PDF contains a fake button labelled “VIEW PDF” which, when clicked, installs malware on the user’s device rather than opening the document. Police report that some local systems have already been compromised after recipients clicked the link.

Members of the public and the business community are urged to take the following precautions:

Do not click any links in unexpected PDFs or email attachments.

Always verify the sender by contacting them directly through a trusted method, such as calling a known phone number or using a confirmed email address, rather than replying to the suspicious message.

If you have already clicked the link or opened the file, immediately disconnect the device from the internet or your network and contact your IT support or service provider for assistance.

Businesses should promptly alert their staff to this scam and review their email security practices and staff training.

The RCIPS is encouraging everyone to remain vigilant and exercise caution when handling unsolicited electronic communications, especially those containing attachments or links.
