The Cayman Islands Government is aware of an incident that occurred yesterday, 24 August, involving a visitor who sustained an injury while in the water in the vicinity of Governor’s Beach.
Immediate action was taken in response to the incident by a multi-agency team consisting of the Department of Environment (DoE) marine unit and the Royal Cayman Islands Police Service (RCIPS) air operations unit, who are working to locate and remove the fish from the area using all available resources.
The individual was transported to the hospital to receive treatment for their injury. Our hearts go out to the visitor, and we wish her a full and speedy recovery.
While marine life encounters resulting in injury are rare in the Cayman Islands, local authorities encourage beachgoers to remain mindful of their surroundings, while enjoying our vibrant marine environment.
In the interest of public safety, members of the public and visitors are strongly advised to exercise extreme caution when entering the water in the vicinity of the incident while the DoE and RCIPS carry out their targeted response.
