The Cayman Motoring Federation (CMF) successfully hosted Round 3 of its six-event Auto Slalom League on Sunday, 12 July 2026, at the Foster's Airport Overflow Parking Lot, with the generous support of Lucky Rabbit, the event sponsor.
The third round welcomed eight competitors, evenly divided between the Stock and Modified classes, and attracted one of the largest spectator crowds seen at a CMF Auto Slalom event to date. The growing attendance reflects the increasing popularity of grassroots motorsport in the Cayman Islands and the community's enthusiasm for safe, skill-based driving competition.
Auto slalom is a precision driving discipline where competitors navigate a course of traffic cones against the clock. Unlike traditional racing, drivers compete individually rather than wheel-to-wheel, making the sport one of the safest and most accessible forms of motorsport for drivers of all ages and experience levels.
CMF President Jane Scaletta said the continued growth of the League reflects the Federation's long-term vision.
"Watching our Auto Slalom League continue to grow is incredibly rewarding. We are creating a welcoming environment where anyone can experience motorsport safely while becoming a better driver. We are equally proud of our commitment to environmental sustainability and the partnerships that help us demonstrate that motorsport and responsible environmental practices can work together. We sincerely thank Lucky Rabbit for sponsoring this event and helping make another successful round possible."
The CMF Auto Slalom League consists of six championship events held throughout the year. At each event, every driver completes three timed runs, with their best two runs combined to determine their final score. This format rewards both consistency and precision while allowing competitors the opportunity to improve throughout the day. Championship points are accumulated across the season, with league champions crowned at the end of the six-event series.
The League is designed for drivers of all skill levels, from first-time competitors to experienced enthusiasts. Beyond competition, the programme forms an important part of the Cayman Motoring Federation's commitment to road safety, providing participants with a controlled environment to develop vehicle control, improve hazard awareness, enhance confidence, and build safer driving habits that transfer directly to Cayman roads.
CMF Vice President Rhondel Ramdath emphasized the Federation's wider objectives.
"Auto slalom is far more than a motorsport competition. It gives drivers an opportunity to better understand their vehicles, improve decision-making under pressure and develop skills that contribute to safer roads for everyone. This programme is an important part of CMF's road safety strategy."
The following competitors earned top honours during Sunday's competition:
Stock Class
● 1st Place: Andrew McLaughlin in hisSuzuki Swift – Combined Time: 71.986 seconds
Modified Class
● 1st Place: Matt Kitching in his Volkswagen GTI – Combined Time: 73.286 seconds
Fastest Single Lap
● Andrew McLaughlin – 34.827 seconds
Environmental sustainability also remained a key focus throughout the event. As part of CMF's ongoing partnership with Refuel, competitors and volunteers were encouraged to complete a sustainability survey designed to increase awareness of environmentally responsible motorsport practices. Participants who completed the survey were entered to receive fuel certificates, generously provided by Refuel, reinforcing the company's commitment to promoting sustainability within motorsport.
Race Director Rory Scheepers praised the continued growth of the League.
"The standard of driving continues to improve with every event. Auto slalom is about precision, consistency and learning. It's rewarding to see new drivers gaining confidence while experienced competitors continue to challenge themselves. The atmosphere on Sunday demonstrated just how much interest there is in grassroots motorsport in Cayman."
Clerk of the Course Adis Kevorkian highlighted the professionalism shown throughout the day.
"Every event is built on preparation, teamwork and safety. Our volunteers, officials and competitors all played their part in delivering another smooth and enjoyable event. Seeing drivers improve run after run is exactly what auto slalom is designed to achieve."
The event also showcased the next generation of motorsport volunteers. Fourteen-year-old Alena Kevorkian once again played an important role by serving as the event Master of Ceremonies (MC) while also operating the official timing system throughout the competition.
Although not yet old enough to compete herself, Alena has become an enthusiastic supporter of the sport.
"I love being involved in the events and seeing how every driver improves throughout the day. Even though I can't compete yet, being part of the team has taught me so much about motorsport, teamwork and responsibility. I can't wait until I can participate."
The Cayman Motoring Federation welcomes new competitors throughout the season and encourages anyone interested in improving their driving skills to participate in future events. Whether driving a completely standard road car or a modified vehicle, Auto Slalom provides a safe, fun and professionally managed environment to develop driving ability while enjoying the excitement of motorsport.
The CMF extends its appreciation to Lucky Rabbit for sponsoring Round 3, Refuel for supporting the Federation's sustainability initiative, and to the many volunteers, officials, competitors and spectators who contributed to another successful event.
