Police/Court
04 June 2026, 05:19 AM

Just after 12:00PM on Tuesday, 2 June, officers from the Royal Cayman Islands Police Service and Public Lands Commission (PLC), were conducting a joint operation in the Seven Mile Public Beach area. Police officers had cause to speak with a man in the parking lot at the location, following observations made in relation to suspected offenses under the Misuse of Drugs Act.

Officers approached the man who became aggressive, began to violently resist their instructions and attempted to leave the scene in a vehicle. One of the police officers was struck by the vehicle, receiving injuries, and the man fled the scene. One officer from the PLC was also injured as a result of this incident. The officers were transported to hospital for treatment and have since been released.

Police immediately began to monitor the direction of travel and progress of the vehicle, which was tracked to the Crewe Road area. The vehicle was soon recovered at a location off Crewe Road, but the suspect fled from the vehicle on foot.

After an extensive search in the surrounding areas and with the assistance of the community, police located the man, age 32 residing in George Town, who has since been arrested and taken into custody pending further investigations.

The RCIPS would like to thank the public for their assistance.

This incident is being investigated by the police and anyone with information concerning the initial incident that took place at the Seven Mile Public Beach or the subsequent search for the suspect, is being encouraged to call the George Town Police Station at 949-4222.
