The Ministry of Youth, Sports, Culture and Heritage is pleased to announce the inaugural observance of Heritage Month, to be celebrated from 1–31 May 2026 across the Cayman Islands.
Held under the theme “Threads to Our Traditions”, Heritage Month brings together a diverse range of cultural events and activities into a coordinated national observance that celebrates and reflects on Caymanian identity, culture and heritage.
This new initiative provides an opportunity to highlight the stories, traditions and cultural expressions that define the Cayman Islands, while creating a shared space for reflection, celebration and national pride.
Importantly, Heritage Month will also encompass the observance of Emancipation Day, a significant and defining moment in Cayman’s history, to be celebrated this year on Monday, 4 May. The Ministry remains committed to ensuring that Emancipation Day continues to be recognised with the importance, prominence, and respect that it deserves, as part of our broader national narrative.
Throughout the month, the public is invited and encouraged to engage in a variety of independently led cultural activities, including heritage showcases, performances, community events and educational experiences taking place across both Grand Cayman and Cayman Brac.
While events will be hosted by a range of community partners and organisations, the Ministry will play a central role in curating and amplifying a cohesive national narrative, ensuring that each activity contributes to a shared story of who we are as Caymanians and weh we from.
Hon. Isaac Rankine, Minister for Youth, Sports, Culture and Heritage, stated: “Heritage Month represents an important step in strengthening how we celebrate and understand our identity as a people. It is an opportunity not only to showcase our culture, but to reflect on the traditions, stories and experiences that have shaped us as a nation.”
The Ministry encourages all residents to participate in Heritage Month activities and to take pride in the rich cultural heritage that continues to shape our Islands.
